SUMMARY:Feet Fetish - Raw Edge Ruffling
DESCRIPTION:A raw edge ruffle is a gathered fabric strip where the free edge is left unfinished to fray\, creating a soft\, bohemian texture\, contrasting with a neatly hemmed ruffle.  This technique adds volume and texture\, commonly seen in garments\, pillows\, or home decor\, with options like pinking shears. \nWe will be up-cycling an old shirt to make a fresh item for your 2026 wardrobe. Picture is from Threads Magazine issue Winter 2025 \nSupply list: Machine in good working order with ruffling and/or gathering attachment. Universal needle to accommodate your fabric strip choices. Regular sewing thread to match your fabric in top and bobbin. Basic sewing supplies\, scissors for thread cuts\, stiletto\, and pins. Fabric strips in different weights and types that have a tendency to fray. I chose cottons\, denim\, and quilt top cottons\, and chiffon or sheer fabrics. I cut the strips 3″-4″ wide and I measured the length needed and doubled the length for the ruffle. Each ruffle can use 2 or 3 layers of fabric\, so you’ll need about 9-12 strips of different fabrics. Have your machine pre-threaded and all of your strips pre-cut before class.
