SUMMARY:NICU Heart to Heart Service Project
DESCRIPTION:A unique program at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is helping premature or critically ill newborns create healthy bonds with their mothers – while still in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).   \nIn the first few days or weeks of life\, babies in the NICU are separated physically from their mothers while nursing staff provides round-the-clock care. \nThe Heart to Heart program uses small pieces of fabric\, sewn in the shape of a heart\, to transfer the mother’s scent to the baby’s crib or isolette for bonding. \n \nPlease read more about the program click here: \nMcDougal Sewing will be helping with this worthy undertaking this year. We will be taking finished hearts at any of our three locations listed below from September 1st until November 13th. \nWe will only be taking finished hearts. These hearts will then be delivered to Donna\, who will be taking them to hospitals that need them. \nYou may need to enlarge the template to 130% on some printers. \nInstruction: NICU-Heart-to-Heart-Instructions \nFor every 5 finished Hearts donated\, your name will be put into a drawing for a Floriani Color\nSpectrum Thread Set with 120 colors of 1000m spools of Floriani Poly thread and 10 spools of Floriani Stabilizer!

DESCRIPTION:Let’s put our Wonky Texture Quilt together! \nSupply list and Pre- Cutting List \nFeet: ¼” foot\, Stitch n Ditch\, Button Sewing foot\, Quilt Binding foot or store-\nbought bias binder wide width\, walking foot or even feed foot\, some\nmachines have the IDT on machine. \nSupplies: Cotton batting (54”X74”) or the size of your top. The 3 yards of\nbacking fabric you bought for the quilt back\, 1/3 yard for binding if you’re\nmaking your own binding. Assorted buttons that have either 2 or 4 holes to\nsew down with foot. I would bring about 10-15 buttons. \nCut: The 3 yards of backing fabric into 2 pieces 44” X 54”\, cut off selvages.\nFrom binding fabric cut 6 pieces 1-3/4” wide X width of fabric. This\nmeasurement is done straight of grain\, not bias.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the world of serging! In class one\, we go through what your serger can do\, stitch length\, width\, and feeding; as well as threading and 3/4 thread stitching. \nThis class is for all serger owners\, featuring 3-thread and 2-thread techniques. SUMMARY:Serger Christmas Stocking (Open to Public)
DESCRIPTION:Open to the Public –\nPattern-$20 minus 15% with class purchase- must buy the pattern prior to class to pre-cut.\nDescription \nLearn lots of fun techniques on your serger and make a quick Christmas stocking for that someone special. This is an intermediate serger class\, you must feel comfortable with your serger and know how to thread it. The pattern is purchased at the store prior to class so you can have everything pre-cut before coming to class. \nGoals\n1. Learn how to create your own piping on your serger and insert it. You’ll also be learning about cutting width adjustments. A piping foot will be needed for this technique.\n2. Learn how to create a gathered edge and Rushing with your gathering or ruffling foot for your serger. Also using the stretch thread or wooly nylon to create a great rolled hem.\n3. Learn how to serge curves and thru several layers safely on your serger. \nSupply List\nPurchase the Serger Stocking Pattern from McDougal Sewing prior to class so you can have the stocking pre-cut before coming to class. You get 15% off the $20 pattern cost. \n\nSerger in good working order with all parts and pieces to run the serger and all accessories\, do NOT forget your screwdriver to change needles. Extra needles for your serger.\n Short thread snip scissors\, plastic clips instead of pins. We do have these at the store.\nExtra fabric strips to test serge.\nPiping foot and Ruffling/gathering foot for your serger. We have some feet in stock\, please let me know if you need these feet for class.\n4 spools of serger cone thread to match your fabric and 1 spool of wooly nylon thread for a decorative rolled edge.
