DESCRIPTION:Free to qualified Sergers purchased at McDougal Sewing\nLet’s learn how to use some of the many stitches our sergers do and how the optional pressure feet help our creativity. Techniques shown will be how to do Ruffling\, 3-thread rolled edges\, pin-tucks\, and 3-thread decorative edge. \nThis is a hands-on intermediate class. You must know how to thread your serger and feel comfortable using it. \nSupply List: Bring your serger\, in good working order and all attachments that came with it. Have your serger threaded with 4 spools of white/cream thread\, 2 new needles and a small pair of scissors. If you have the Ruffling foot\, and a blind hem foot please bring them for this class. \nFabric and specialty tools may be provided.  Some attachments will be shared during class when needed. $10 kit fee\, cash only\, due day of class.

My Mother taught me how to make a bird when I was a little girl on a Singer Blackhead! This year we will be using some of our decorative stitches along with the Echo Quilting presser foot to create texture. \n Thread painting is pretty much drawing with threads and yarns. DESCRIPTION:Thread Painting with Decorative Stitches \nLet’s learn how to Free Motion in a unique and very old technique called Thread Painting. My Mother taught me how to make a bird when I was a little girl on a Singer Blackhead! This year we will be using some of our decorative stitches along with the Echo Quilting presser foot to create texture. \n Thread painting is pretty much drawing with threads and yarns. It is about your personal preferences\, about density\, light and shadow\, colors and texture… it is pretty much about you being in control of how the thread moves across the canvas of your fabric.  You are the Artist and your sewing machine is your tool. \nPre-requisite: This is not a Beginner Class. You must be familiar with how to thread your machine and be comfortable using it. The machine must be in good working order prior to class. SUMMARY:Feet Fetish - Raw Edge Ruffling
DESCRIPTION:A raw edge ruffle is a gathered fabric strip where the free edge is left unfinished to fray\, creating a soft\, bohemian texture\, contrasting with a neatly hemmed ruffle.  This technique adds volume and texture\, commonly seen in garments\, pillows\, or home decor\, with options like pinking shears. \nWe will be up-cycling an old shirt to make a fresh item for your 2026 wardrobe. Picture is from Threads Magazine issue Winter 2025 \nSupply list: Machine in good working order with ruffling and/or gathering attachment. Universal needle to accommodate your fabric strip choices. Regular sewing thread to match your fabric in top and bobbin. Basic sewing supplies\, scissors for thread cuts\, stiletto\, and pins. Fabric strips in different weights and types that have a tendency to fray. I chose cottons\, denim\, and quilt top cottons\, and chiffon or sheer fabrics. I cut the strips 3″-4″ wide and I measured the length needed and doubled the length for the ruffle. Each ruffle can use 2 or 3 layers of fabric\, so you’ll need about 9-12 strips of different fabrics. Have your machine pre-threaded and all of your strips pre-cut before class.

SUMMARY:Feet Fetish - Raw Edge Ruffling
DESCRIPTION:A raw edge ruffle is a gathered fabric strip where the free edge is left unfinished to fray\, creating a soft\, bohemian texture\, contrasting with a neatly hemmed ruffle.  This technique adds volume and texture\, commonly seen in garments\, pillows\, or home decor\, with options like pinking shears. \nWe will be up-cycling an old shirt to make a fresh item for your 2026 wardrobe. Picture is from Threads Magazine issue Winter 2025 \nSupply list: Machine in good working order with ruffling and/or gathering attachment. Universal needle to accommodate your fabric strip choices. Regular sewing thread to match your fabric in top and bobbin. Basic sewing supplies\, scissors for thread cuts\, stiletto\, and pins. Fabric strips in different weights and types that have a tendency to fray. I chose cottons\, denim\, and quilt top cottons\, and chiffon or sheer fabrics. I cut the strips 3″-4″ wide and I measured the length needed and doubled the length for the ruffle. Each ruffle can use 2 or 3 layers of fabric\, so you’ll need about 9-12 strips of different fabrics. Have your machine pre-threaded and all of your strips pre-cut before class.
