DESCRIPTION:Skill level-Intermediate Sewer\, knows how to use patterns.  Must also know the basics of your serger and be comfortable using it.  This is not a beginner class.  \nDid you know you can make your own pair of custom leggings in less than 3 hours? YOU CAN on a Serger! Just have the tissue pattern piece pre-cut before class\, bring your spandex fabric and we’ll learn how to cut on these slippery knits and use our serger to serge up a pair of leggings. \nSupply List: \n\nAny Commercial Pattern that has a one piece pattern tissue for leggings. McCalls 6173 is an example. You can also find them as a PDF online. Just make sure you have only 1 pattern piece that we cut out on folded fabric. That way you will finish in class.\nFabric and elastic according to the directions on your pattern.\nFour spools of serger cone thread* to match your fabric.\nTweezers*\, all attachments and book that came with your serger\, scissors* to cut fabric along with pins or pattern weight\, serger clips*\, small pair of scissors* for cutting threads\, fabric maker* or chalk\, fray check*   (* means we have these items at McDougal Sewing with a 15% off discount)\nBEFORE CLASS- Have your pattern piece pre-cut out of the tissue before class\, we’ll cut the fabric in class. Picture is from Threads Magazine issue Winter 2025 \nSupply list: Machine in good working order with ruffling and/or gathering attachment. Universal needle to accommodate your fabric strip choices. Regular sewing thread to match your fabric in top and bobbin. Basic sewing supplies\, scissors for thread cuts\, stiletto\, and pins. Fabric strips in different weights and types that have a tendency to fray. I chose cottons\, denim\, and quilt top cottons\, and chiffon or sheer fabrics. I cut the strips 3″-4″ wide and I measured the length needed and doubled the length for the ruffle. Each ruffle can use 2 or 3 layers of fabric\, so you’ll need about 9-12 strips of different fabrics. Have your machine pre-threaded and all of your strips pre-cut before class.

DESCRIPTION:Thread Painting with Decorative Stitches \nLet’s learn how to Free Motion in a unique and very old technique called Thread Painting. My Mother taught me how to make a bird when I was a little girl on a Singer Blackhead! This year we will be using some of our decorative stitches along with the Echo Quilting presser foot to create texture. \n Thread painting is pretty much drawing with threads and yarns. It is about your personal preferences\, about density\, light and shadow\, colors and texture… it is pretty much about you being in control of how the thread moves across the canvas of your fabric.  You are the Artist and your sewing machine is your tool. \nPre-requisite: This is not a Beginner Class. You must be familiar with how to thread your machine and be comfortable using it. The machine must be in good working order prior to class. No refunds if your machine does not work the day of class. \nFee includes Kit with fabric\, batting\, stabilizer and use of different shiny threads and variety of yarns to couch. \nSupply list: You bring: \n1. Machine in good working order with all electrical cords and foot pedal. \n2. The Echo quilting foot to fit your machine. * We have these in stock at McDougals for some models. \n 3. Dark sewing thread in bobbin- pre-wound to full. (not shiny) \n 4. New size 80/12 or 90/14 needle- universal or embroidery. \n 5. Small scissors for thread cutting. \n 6. Stiletto or chop stick or skewer. \n 7. Dark marking pen to draw a trunk outline.
