Looking for a fun and festive way to present your gifts this year? You will love making these quick and easy gift bags from Kimberbell. These In-The-Hoop bags are ingenious! The entire bag is completely lined with no raw seams exposed, and is done in just one hooping. Even the ribbon casing is done in the hoop. Sounds crazy, right? Crazy brilliant! There are six different bags, each available in two different sizes.
1. Gather Your Fabrics and Supplies
For most bag sizes a fat quarter is more than enough fabric (the largest bags do need more).
2. Read the Instructions
Kimberbell is known for having excellent instructions, with wonderful step-by-step photos to keep you on track. You may wish to print out the instructions, have them displayed on your computer, or load them onto your tablet.
3. Print Your Tags
Included on the CD are nine coordinating gift tags that you can print out. They are sew cute! There are even a couple that have gift suggestions to go inside your bag, like nail polish or candy kisses or lip balm. Pop a tag on your bag and you have a perfect gift that is sure to bring a smile.
Tips for In-The-Hoop Projects
Make sure that your hoop is tight. When using one layer of stabilizer, that hoop may need to be tight to hold on well.
- Use “Pink Tape” (Embroidery Perfection Tape— Floriani) to hold your fabric in place.
- For trimming, use a good pair of scissors that has a curved or bent handle to get into the hoop better (my favorites are the Kai 5 1/2” curved).
- When trimming, take the hoop off of the machine and lay on a flat surface (a table top, not your lap!). This will help maintain the tension of the fabric and stabilizer
